Ergodic Control of Switching Diffusions*

چکیده
A bstract . We study the ergodic control problem of switching diffusions representing a typical hybrid system that arises in numerous applications such as fault-tolerant control systems, flexible manufacturing systems, etc. Under fairly general conditions, we establish the existence of a stable, nonrandomized Markov policy which almost surely minimizes the pathwise long-run average cost. We then study the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation and establish the existence of a unique solution in a certain class. Using this, we characterize the optimal policy as a minimizing selector of the Hamiltonian associated with the HJB equations. As an example we apply the results to a failure prone manufacturing system and obtain closed form solutions for the optimal policy.

Geometric Ergodicity for diffusions with random regime switching and unbounded rates
Diffusions with random switching are stochastic processes that consist of a diffusion process Xt and a continuous Markov jump process Yt. Both components interact with each other as Yt controls the dynamical regimes of Xt and Xt effects the transition rate of Yt. This type of systems includes a wide range of models used in various fields, and many applications require the transition rates of Yt...
متن کاملErgodic Diffusion Control of Multiclass Multi-Pool Networks in the Halfin-Whitt Regime
We consider Markovian multiclass multi-pool networks with heterogeneous server pools, each consisting of many statistically identical parallel servers, where the bipartite graph of customer classes and server pools forms a tree (acyclic). Customers form their own queue and are served in the FCFS discipline, and can abandon while waiting in queue. Service rates are both class and pool dependent....
متن کاملSingular Perturbations in Ergodic Control of Diffusions
Ergodic control of a non-degenerate diffusion with two timescales is studied in the limiting case as the time-scale separation increases to infinity. It is shown that the limit problem is another ergodic control problem for the slow time-scale component alone with its dynamics averaged over the (controlled) invariant probability measures for the fast component. These measures in turn can be tre...
متن کاملErgodic control of diffusion processes
Results concerning existence and characterization of optimal controls for ergodic control of nondegenerate diffusion processes are described. Extensions to the general ‘controlled martingale problem’ are indicated, which cover in particular degenerate diffusions and some infinite dimensional problems. In conclusion, some related problems and open issues are discussed. Mathematics Subject Classi...
متن کاملCentral limit theorems for additive functionals of ergodic Markov diffusions processes
We revisit functional central limit theorems for additive functionals of ergodic Markov diffusion processes. Translated in the language of partial differential equations of evolution, they appear as diffusion limits in the asymptotic analysis of FokkerPlanck type equations. We focus on the square integrable framework, and we provide tractable conditions on the infinitesimal generator, including...
